Izodoshina is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Matsue, Shimane Prefecture. The shrine enshrines Izumo Okuninushi, a kami associated with fertility and prosperity, as well as various regional deities such as Inari and Uke Mochi. Cultural notes
Izodoshina is connected to the mythology of Izumo Okuninushi, a powerful kami believed to have defeated a giant serpent that threatened the land. The shrine also hosts an annual Matsue Cherry Blossom Festival in March and April.
Historical note
The shrine dates back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE) and is believed to have been built by the Emperor Go-Sanjo in 1154 CE.
