Ise Grand Shrine in Shikoku is the only branch of Ise Grand Shrine in Mie Prefecture, and is believed to be enshrined with two kami, Okami and Uzanegi no Okami. While not directly located in Tokushima Prefecture, it has connections to the region through its regional kami and historical events. The shrine was originally built during the Nara period (710-794 CE), but the current structures were rebuilt in the 17th century.

Visitor tip
Visit the nearby Shikoku Railway Company's 'World Heritage Railway' route, which passes through Ise Grand Shrine's grounds, and get off at the Iya Valley Station to experience the scenic beauty of the surrounding area.
Cultural notes
Ise Grand Shrine is a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its sacred ritual of purification, where visitors throw sacred stones into a designated area upon arrival. The shrine also has historical connections to the legendary 'Manpuku-kaichin' treasure, said to have been buried by Princess Empress Shoton and then hidden in Ise.
