正一位稲荷神社

Aomori

Located in Aomori Prefecture, Iwai Tateyama Shrine is dedicated to Tateyama Okami and Tateyama Hoshi-gami, two deities believed to have the power to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune. The shrine's architecture is typical of a Shinto shrine from the Kamakura period, with a wooden torii gate and a simple yet elegant main hall.

Visitor tip

To purify your mind and body before visiting the shrine, take a walk around the adjacent Iwai Tateyama Park and rinse your hands at the temizuya fountain.

Tateyama Okami is often depicted as a powerful and benevolent deity, while Tateyama Hoshi-gami is associated with the protection of travelers. Visitors can offer prayers to both deities during the annual Tateyama Matsuri festival in August.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt in 1899 after being destroyed by fire in 1871.
