History
Kinrō Kansha no Hi descends from Niinamesai, an imperial harvest rite offering newly harvested rice. After World War II the day was reframed to thank labor and celebrate production. It remains fixed on November 23.

Low-key compared with New Year or Obon — a quiet day off. Some communities hold harvest or craft events.
Travel tips
Late foliage and illuminations season. Less chaotic than Golden Week; a good window for Kyoto and Nara before December peak lights crowds. Many offices closed; tourist sites usually open.
