金毘羅権現

The Shinno-ji Temple, located in Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture, enshrines the Shinto god of fertility and prosperity, Kinmoto no kami, but is also known as the Gold-Painted Buddha Shrine after its famous golden statue. The shrine's architecture reflects its historical ties to the Buddhist Shinno-ji Temple, a revered temple in Dazaifu that dates back to 767 AD.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

The temple complex was originally constructed by Emperor Shomu in 767 AD as a Buddhist temple and was later incorporated into the Shinto system.
