Cultural notes
The Eight Heavenly Deities Shrine is associated with the mythology of the Hachiman no Mikoto, Shinto deity of war and wisdom. During the annual Festival of the Eight Deities (Hachi no Matsuri), locals reenact the legend of Hachiman's discovery of a sword by Emperor Jimmu.
