若宮八幡神社

Akita

Located in the heart of Akita city, Ifukuku-cho's oldest shrine, Hie Shrine, is dedicated to the deity of prosperity and good fortune, Hachiman-gu. The shrine has a long history dating back to the 8th century. In the nearby town of Ifukoku, the famous Eight-Figure Hachiman Shrine (Hachiman-jinja) was once located but moved to its current location in 1962.

Visitor tip

To fully appreciate the shrine's beauty, visit during cherry blossom season ( late March to early April) and enjoy the vibrant pink flowers amidst the serene surroundings.

Cultural notes

This shrine is famous for its unique architectural style known as 'Hie-zukuri,' which was originally designed for the Eight-Figure Hachiman Shrine. The current structure features an impressive wooden gate, a large torii gate with eight columns, and a striking five-story pagoda.
