Located in the heart of Akita city, Ifukuku-cho's oldest shrine, Hie Shrine, is dedicated to the deity of prosperity and good fortune, Hachiman-gu. The shrine has a long history dating back to the 8th century. In the nearby town of Ifukoku, the famous Eight-Figure Hachiman Shrine (Hachiman-jinja) was once located but moved to its current location in 1962.
