Kingotsu Shrine, located in the Shimane Prefecture, is dedicated to the Shinto deity Kingotsu. The shrine is situated on a hill overlooking the Sea of Japan and is famous for its stunning views of the coast. Built during the Heian period (794-1185 CE), the shrine's architecture reflects the traditional Japanese style with a main hall and several smaller shrines.

Visitor tip
For the best views of the coast, visit the shrine during sunset and climb to the top of the hill.
Cultural notes
Kingotsu is believed to be a kami associated with the sea and fishing. The shrine hosts an annual spring festival celebrating this deity, known as Kingotsu Matsuri.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt after being damaged by an earthquake in 2004.
