Visitor tip

Cultural notes
The shrine is famous for its traditional Japanese architecture, featuring a haiden (main hall) and honden (inner shrine), as well as its beautiful gardens. The White Mountain Shrine is also closely associated with the legend of the 53 Stations of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route, which passes near the shrine.
Historical note
Founded in 767 by Emperor Shinmu during the Nara period, it has been designated a National Treasure since 1955.
