Sotojinja Shrine is a Shinto temple located in the town of Shibukawa, Gunma Prefecture. As its name suggests, Sotojinja Shrine honors the kami of the land, particularly the deity of soil and fertility. Visitor tip

For those visiting on April 1st, the shrine is known for its Cherry Blossom Viewing festival (Hanami), where visitors can enjoy traditional food, drinks, and festivities under the blooming cherry blossoms.

Cultural notes

In addition to honoring the kami of soil and fertility, Sotojinja Shrine is also associated with the mythology of the Japanese rice goddess, Inari Okami. The shrine's main hall features a beautiful torii gate, which is said to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune.

The shrine was originally built in 1663 during the Edo period as a local shrine for the community.
