Miyagi

Located in the city of Ishinomaki, Godai-jinja Shrine is a Shinto temple dedicated to the kami Mutsu no Okami and Tsukuyomi no Kami. The shrine's main hall was built during the Heian period (794-1185 CE) and features a unique design that reflects its connection to the nearby Matsushima Islands. Visitors can explore the shrine grounds, which include several smaller shrines and gardens, as well as participate in traditional festivals and events. One of the most famous aspects of Godai-jinja Shrine is its beautiful wooden lanterns, which are said to have been crafted during the Edo period (1603-1868 CE).
