Daya-ji Temple, located in the city of Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture, is one of Japan's most famous Shinto shrines. Dedicated to the kami of the sun and storms, it is believed to have been founded in 757 AD during the Nara period. The shrine is notable for its well-preserved traditional architecture and is often referred to as 'Japan's first university'.

Cultural notes
