Located in the city of Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, smallmushroom Shinto shrine is dedicated to the god of rice and fertility, Oya no Kami, as well as the goddess of prosperity, Bishamon, and several other regional kami. The shrine's architecture reflects its origins in the Edo period, with a unique hexagonal torii gate and traditional wooden buildings.

Visitor tip
For visitors, it is recommended to approach the torii gate at sunset or twilight, when the setting sun's golden light casts a warm glow over the shrine's tranquil grounds.
Cultural notes
In addition to Oya no Kami and Bishamon, smallmushroom Shinto shrine enshrines several other regional kami known as yurei, including the vengeful spirit of a samurai who was wrongly accused and executed. The shrine is said to be visited during the annual Kishin-mai Festival in July, when locals honor these spirits with offerings and prayers.
Historical note
Founded during the Edo period (1603-1867), smallmushroom Shinto shrine was originally established as a waystation for travelers and merchants crossing the nearby Nakasato River.
