一宮神社

Tokushima

One-miya-jinja is a Shinto shrine located in Shikoku, dedicated to the god of the Imperial Household and the protector of the samurai class. The shrine's architecture reflects its historical significance as a stronghold of the Tokushima daimyo family during the Edo period.

Visitor tip

Visit One-miya-jinja early in the morning to witness the ritual purification ceremony, which usually takes place at 5:30 am during the spring and autumn equinoxes.

This shrine is famous for its unique architectural style, which combines traditional Shinto elements with influences from the Tokugawa shogunate. The shrine is also connected to the mythology of the Sanin Kannon, a female bodhisattva revered in Shikoku.
