Sagamiko Shrine, located in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu, but its counterpart in the Sagami region is Hachiman kami, who watches over fishermen and travelers. This shrine is believed to be founded during the Sengoku period.

Visitor tip
Try some of the local specialties, such as 'sagamiko-kusa' (wild mint) tea, which is said to be blessed by the shrine.
Cultural notes
The shrine is famous for its beautiful cherry blossom trees and autumn foliage. The Hachiman matsuri festival takes place in May, where visitors can pray for safe travels and a good harvest.
Historical note
The shrine was relocated from its original site at the northern end of Sagamiko Lake to its current location in 1890, after a typhoon destroyed the old structure.
