Located in the city of Matsue, Yotsukuni Shrine is dedicated to the god of war and protection, Yama-no-okami, as well as other kami such as Fujin, Raijin, and Inazumanekoyamano-Okami. The shrine's architecture is characteristic of the Shinto style found in western Japan, with a distinctive five-story pagoda. The shrine's history dates back to the 8th century, making it one of the oldest shrines in Shimane Prefecture.

Visitor tip
To get a better view of the surrounding landscape from the shrine's grounds, climb the stairs leading up to the shrine's main hall on the north side. Bring water and snacks for the hike.
