Aomori

Inari Okappi Shrine is dedicated to the Shinto deity Inari, the god of rice and fertility. The shrine is located in the heart of Aomori City, near the famous Aomori Bay. Founded in 1879, it has undergone several renovations while maintaining its traditional architecture.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

Inari Okappi Shrine is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates hung from the trees, a traditional Shinto practice known as 'tama-yakushi' or 'sacred tree planting.' This unique feature attracts many visitors and photographers.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire during World War II.
