Located in the town of Izaida, Shimane Prefecture, Iizanata Hachiman-gu is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Hachiman, the god of war and patron deity of samurai. The shrine is built on the site of an ancient ritual area where local people would honor Hachiman before going into battle. The shrine's main hall features traditional Heian-style architecture and is surrounded by a serene garden with a pond.

Visitor tip

Hachiman is also associated with the legend of the 'Three Thousand Shimeni,' a mythical warrior who was said to have possessed supernatural strength and agility. Locals still offer prayers for victory in battle, but also pray for peace and prosperity.

The shrine was founded in the 7th century, during the Asuka period, making it one of the oldest shrines in Japan.
