Cultural notes
Godaikan Inari Shrine is closely tied to the mythology of Inari Okami, who was said to have brought rice from heaven to humanity. The shrine's many fox shrines, known as Kitsune-ta, are believed to be envoys of the kami and are often decorated with vermilion paint and offerings.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in 1736 after being destroyed by a flood.
