Located in the city of Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, Seiryu-ji Temple's Mimasaka Shrine is a revered Shinto site dedicated to the god of wisdom and knowledge, Seiryu-ō. This ancient shrine has played host to numerous notable events throughout Japanese history.

Visitor tip

Pay respects at the torii gate before entering the shrine grounds, and be sure to try some local specialties from the food stalls available near the temple entrance.

Cultural notes

Seiryu-ji Temple's Mimasaka Shrine is closely tied to the mythological story of Seiryu-ō, a powerful god said to have possessed immense knowledge. The shrine also hosts an annual Seiryu-ō festival in May to honor this deity and celebrate wisdom.
