Momi no Okami Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Hikawa, Shimane Prefecture. Dedicated to Mimi no Kami, the god of forests and trees, it is known for its beautiful autumn foliage. Visitor tip
For a unique experience, try visiting Momi no Okami Shrine during autumn foliage season (mid-November to mid-December). The stunning display of golden and crimson leaves is a sight to behold.
Cultural notes
Mimi no Kami is believed to be the god of forests, trees, and woodworkers. According to legend, the shrine's founder, a woodworker himself, was granted immortality by Mimi no Kami for his craftsmanship. The shrine also hosts an annual Autumn Leaves Festival (Koyo Matsuri) to honor the changing colors of the leaves.

The shrine was founded in the late Heian period (10th century), during the reign of Emperor Ichijō.
