Ishikawa

The Jokyu-ji Temple, also known as Geirei-in or Geizai-en, is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. Dedicated to the god of wisdom and prosperity, Kannon, it was originally built as a Buddhist temple but later became a Shinto shrine. The shrine is famous for its beautiful garden, traditional architecture, and the annual Cherry Blossom Viewing Festival.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

Jokyu-ji is closely tied to the regional mythology of Ishikawa Prefecture, where the god Jokyu, associated with fertility and agriculture, is enshrined. The shrine's annual festivals reflect this connection, including the Sanja Matsuri in May and the Omiyage no Hi in July.

The shrine's current building dates back to the late Edo period (1868-1889).
