Cultural notes

White Mountain Shrine is closely associated with the mythology of the Japanese Alps. According to legend, the god of the White Mountain range, Hachimantai, was born from a white mountain after being pierced by a spear. The shrine also celebrates the Hakusan Matsuri festival in August, which features traditional music and dance performances.
