Located in the city of Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Daisenji Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu and her grandson, Hachiman, as well as the local kami, the 'Forest Spirit'. The shrine's main hall, the hondo, features a unique tile roof design characteristic of the Kita Province region. Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Daisenji Shrine is famous for its autumn leaf viewing (koyo) and New Year's (o-shogatsu) festivals. The shrine also hosts an annual Hachiman Festival in April, which honors the god of war and patron deity of the local community.
Historical note
The shrine was established during the Edo period (1603-1868) to serve as a symbol of power for the ruling daimyo, the Maeda family.
