Spring Day Shrine, located in Omi-Hachiman city, Shiga Prefecture, is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu and the storm god Susanoo. The shrine's main hall was built in the 7th century, during the Asuka period, making it one of Japan's oldest shrines.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Spring Day Shrine is famous for its beautiful garden, which includes a large torii gate and a traditional Japanese walkway called 'yakouin'. The shrine also holds an annual spring festival called 'Shunbun Matsuri', which celebrates the arrival of spring with music, dance, and food.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 1333, during the Nanboku-chō period.
