Ishikawa

Ai Date Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. The shrine was built to enshrine Prince Niitaka, an emperor who died in battle against the Emishi people. Ai Date Shrine is particularly famous for its beautiful gardens and traditional Japanese architecture.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

Ai Date Shrine is associated with the mythological figure of Emperor Ojin, who was said to have died on this site. The shrine is also known for its traditional Japanese festivals, including the annual Ai Date Matsuri, which takes place in August.
