鍵取若宮神社

Located in the city of Kanazawa, Hie Shrine is one of Japan's most famous Shinto shrines dedicated to the god Hachiman, patron deity of the Imperial Court and a powerful kami associated with war and protection. The shrine was originally built on Mount Haku but relocated to its current site in 1496 during the Muromachi period. Visitors can explore the main hall of the shrine which features a statue of Hachiman, as well as a five-story pagoda and numerous gardens.

Visitor tip

To fully appreciate the beauty of the shrine's gardens, consider visiting early in the morning or late in the afternoon when possible, as the soft light creates a serene atmosphere.

Cultural notes

Hie Shrine is closely associated with the legend of the 'Five Arrows' which are said to be located at the shrine. According to myth, if one's heart is pure and they carry these five arrows within them, they will be granted victory in battle and protection from harm.
