Cultural notes
Matsuo Shrine is famous for its rice-blessing ceremony, where participants wear white clothing and carry sacred sake jars to purify themselves. The shrine is also said to be associated with the myth of Inari Okami's love for a fox spirit, which is still celebrated during the annual Matsuo Festival in October.
