North Field Shrine, located in Ishikawa Prefecture, is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of agriculture and fertility. The shrine's name refers to its location on the northern edge of a field in Echizen Province. Its main deity is Susanoo-no-Mikoto, a powerful storm god and ancestor of the imperial family.

Visitor tip
To avoid crowds, visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon when exploring the shrine's grounds, which feature a unique Edo-period (1603-1867) torii gate.
Cultural notes
The shrine is famous for its beautiful autumn foliage and is often visited during the autumnal Equinox festival, Kodomo no Hi. Visitors can also experience the traditional Echizen Province cuisine and local handicrafts.
