Located in the town of Kusaka, Gunma Prefecture, Ōsumaidōra Haku-Ryūjin-gu is a small Shinto shrine dedicated to the dragon god Haku-Ryūjin. The shrine's name reflects its location on a hill (ōsumai) overlooking the surrounding mountains and fields. According to local legend, the shrine was built by a local samurai who had traveled to the shrine at Ise in Mie Prefecture and received divine blessings for his family.

Visitor tip
Visitors can take a short hike from the shrine down to the nearby Ōsumai River, where they can see cherry blossoms in bloom during spring or autumn leaves in fall. Bring binoculars to spot local bird species, including the Japanese pygmy woodpecker.
Cultural notes
As a local deity for the surrounding region, Haku-Ryūjin is revered for his role in bringing good fortune and prosperity to the community. During the annual Shunbun Matsuri festival ( late April), locals gather at the shrine to celebrate with traditional dances, food stalls, and sake offerings.
