阿波八幡神社

Tottori

Arashiyama Eighteen Hachiman Shrine, located in the town of Koyama, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Hachiman, the god of war and patron deity of warriors. In Tottori Prefecture, it is believed that the shrine was built to commemorate the bravery of Taira no Tametomo, who died at this site during the Genpei War in 1181.

Visitor tip

For visitors with mobility issues, a wheelchair-accessible path leads from the main shrine gate to the adjacent Hachiman Shrine memorial hall.

Cultural notes

This shrine is known for its unique 'twin shrines' design, where two large torii gates are placed side by side, and the annual Otsukimi festival celebrates the moon's reflection on the sea.
