Ishikawa

Akibe Shrine, located in Ishikawa Prefecture, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of autumn leaves and fertility. The shrine's main hall is a wooden structure with a distinctive tiled roof, typical of the Edo period architectural style. According to local legend, the shrine was founded during the Nara period by a local lord who wanted to honor his patron deity before embarking on a military campaign.

Cultural notes

Akibe Shrine is closely associated with the mythology of the god Susanoo-no-Mikoto, who was known for his mischievous nature. According to legend, Susanoo-no-Mikoto created a beautiful garden by fighting and killing the evil god of the sea, but later abandoned it, leaving behind a tree that would eventually become the shrine's main symbol.
