Cultural notes

According to legend, Omono no Ko no Kami was born from a rock formed by the tears of a mother hen who had lost her eggs. The shrine is famous for its 'Love Rock,' a large stone pedestal that is said to be the birthplace of the god. During the cherry blossom season, couples often visit the shrine to pray for love and happiness.

Historical note

The shrine was originally founded in 645 as a Buddhist temple, but was later converted to Shintoism in the 10th century.
