Located in Hyogo Prefecture, Nagata Hachiman Shrine is a Shinto temple dedicated to the god of war and protector of the dead. Its main hall features a distinctive curved roof and ornate wooden decorations, typical of Kamakura-period architecture. The shrine is said to be built on an ancient battlefield where Emperor Jinmu defeated his rival, Yoriyasu. Visitors can still see the remains of a stone wall that runs along the main path.

Cultural notes
Nagata Hachiman Shrine is closely associated with the legend of Emperor Jinmu's victory over Yoriyasu. The shrine's name, 'Hachiman', refers to the god of war who was said to have helped the emperor defeat his rival. During the annual Hachiman Matsuri festival in October, visitors can see traditional dances and performances depicting the legendary battle.
