熊野神社

Toyama

Kanazawa's Katsuoji Hachimangu Shrine is dedicated to the deity Hachiman, but it appears this is a misnomer as the temple in Toyama bears the name of Noto's Kojima Tenmangu, which honors the deity Susanoo-no-Mikoto. This shrine enshrines the regional kami of the Toya River and other local spirits, believed to be associated with the river's source, the Asanaga Falls.

Cultural notes

Kojima Tenmangu is closely tied to the local legend of Susanoo-no-Mikoto and his sister Himiko. The shrine is also known for its unique Shōroku-zukuri architectural style, which features large wooden pillars and ornate roofing tiles.
