Cultural notes

Dayo Shrine is connected to the myth of Tsukuyomi, the god of the moon and agriculture. According to legend, Tsukuyomi was said to have created the first rice paddies in Japan by striking the ground with his sword. The shrine's festival, 'Tsukimairi,' celebrates this mythological event.
