氏八満神社

Cultural notes

This shrine is said to be inhabited by the yurei (vengeful spirits) of those who died from 'Eight Hundred Years of Suffering', a mythological affliction that was believed to cause great suffering and hardship. During the Obon festival, visitors may offer prayers for the repose of the spirits.

Founded during the Kamakura period (1185-1333), this shrine has been rebuilt several times due to natural disasters.
