Cultural notes
As one of the oldest shrines in Tokushima, Hachisakamori is deeply connected to the local legend of Urashima Taro. According to myth, the shrine's main deity, Kame-sama (Dragon god), saved a young fisherman named Urashima from drowning and granted him immortality before his eventual return to human form.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt after being destroyed during the Genkyo era (1573-1598 CE).
