Cultural notes

Hachimangu-dera is closely associated with the legend of Hachiman's journey from Izumo Province, where he heard the complaints of the Emperor and the people. According to myth, Hachiman was sent to pacify the province, which was plagued by famine and disease. Upon his return, he was enshrined at this site as a symbol of his role as protector and guardian.

Historical note

Founded in 757 AD during the Nara period, Hachimangu-dera has been an important center of worship for over 1,200 years.
