Located in the city of Kumagaya, Gunma Prefecture, the Eight Stage Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of good fortune and prosperity. As one of the eight shrines in Kamakura known as the Hachiman Taisha group, it is deeply rooted in Japanese history and culture. The shrine's architecture reflects the Heian period style, with its main hall featuring a beautiful tile roof and a five-story pagoda.

Visitor tip

To make a wish at the shrine, tie a pink ribbon to the wooden beam that marks the spot where you made your wish. This tradition is said to bring good luck and ensure the wishes are granted.

Cultural notes

The Eight Stage Shrine is closely associated with the legend of the Taira clan's defeat in the Genpei War. According to myth, the shrine's location was chosen by Hachiman himself as a sacred site to reward the loyalty of his devotees. During the New Year (Oshogatsu) festival, visitors can participate in traditional rituals and games that promote good fortune and prosperity.
