Four Paths Shrine, located in the mountains of western Japan, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of the four cardinal directions and the four directions of travel. According to legend, the shrine was founded by a samurai who prayed to the gods for protection before departing on a journey.

Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), following its destruction during the Sengoku period (1467-1603).
