Ishikawa

The Goto Jurokuji Shrine, located in the Kanazawa Ward of Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of agriculture and fertility, the kami Goto Juroku-Okami. The shrine's current main hall dates back to 1888, but it sits on the site of a temple that was established in 1493. This shrine has been a significant center for local farmers since its founding.

Visitor tip

When visiting the shrine, be sure to ring the large bell located outside the main hall, which is said to have healing properties.

Cultural notes

Goto Juroku-Okami is associated with fertility and agriculture, and locals often pray for a bountiful harvest. The shrine also holds an annual autumn festival, with rituals involving the use of sacred washi paper called 'emaki'.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt after an earthquake in 1923.
