Outagawa-kyo Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Izumo, Shimane Prefecture. It is dedicated to the god of fertility and prosperity, Inari Okami, as well as the gods of rice and millet, Suijin Tai no Kami. The shrine's architecture reflects the Heian period style, with a main hall and several smaller shrines. Visitors can see traditional Japanese art and crafts on display within the shrine's buildings. Outagawa-kyo Shrine is also famous for its beautiful gardens and scenic views of the surrounding mountains.

Visitor tip
To avoid long lines, visit Outagawa-kyo Shrine early in the morning or later in the evening when it's less crowded.
Cultural notes
The shrine is associated with the legend of Izumo Taishō, a legendary ruler who was said to have been born from the earth itself. According to myth, Izumo Taishō built the shrine and established the worship of Inari Okami.
Historical note
The shrine was built in 1635 during the Edo period, as a result of a decree by Tokugawa Iemitsu to establish Shinto shrines throughout Japan.
