Located in the heart of Sendai, Higashi-Matsushima-ku, the prestigious Futsu Shrine is dedicated to the Sea God (Kasuga-tsurugi no kami), a powerful deity who governs the sea and its bounty. This shrine is famous for its beautiful vermilion torii gate and stunning autumn foliage. With a history dating back over 1,300 years, it is one of Japan's most revered Shinto shrines.

Cultural notes
As a sea god, Futsu Shrine is deeply connected to the myth of the 'Tsurugi no kami', who was said to have been worshiped by the legendary Japanese warrior Minamoto no Yoshitsune. The shrine also hosts the annual 'Tsukimatsuri' festival in honor of Kasuga-tsurugi no kami.
