諏訪神社

Ibaraki

Located in the city of Hitachi-Oda, Shito Shrine is a small but historic Shinto shrine dedicated to Tsukuyomi-no-kami, the moon god. Built in 1898, the current shrine structure is a blend of traditional and modern styles. The shrine's main hall features a unique design with a large roofed torii gate that reflects the changing seasons. Visitors can enjoy beautiful cherry blossom viewing during spring.

Visitor tip

Visit during the Cherry Blossom Festival ( Late March to Early April) for a stunning display of blooming sakura trees.

Cultural notes

Shinto traditions and mythology connect Tsukuyomi-no-kami with fertility, prosperity, and good fortune. In traditional Japanese folklore, the moon god is also associated with the soul's journey after death.

Historical note

The original shrine was built on this site in 1634, but it was destroyed by fire before being rebuilt in 1898.
