直江神社

Ishikawa

Located in the town of Sonogata, Ishikawa Prefecture, the direct ancestor of a powerful samurai family, the Ueda clan, founded direct ancestral shrine. Dedicated to direct ancestor god, Hachiman, shrine is located on a hillside and has a temple at its foot. Direct ancestral shrine features a large Hie shrine and traditional Japanese architecture.

Cultural notes

The shrine is associated with the legend of Hachiman, a Shinto deity revered for his role as patron god of warriors. The temple at its foot houses the famous Ueda clan crest and is said to have been used in family rituals. Shrine grounds also host traditional festivals such as the Hachimantai Festival.
