Cultural notes

The shrine is closely associated with fishing and maritime traditions in Aomori Prefecture. Benzaiten's influence is reflected in the shrine's architecture and the many fish-shaped wooden decorations that adorn its premises. During the Setsubun festival, visitors can participate in a traditional 'fish throwing' ceremony to ward off evil spirits.

Historical note

Founded in 1871, during the Meiji period, as a new shrine for the existing temple site.
