Located in the city of Chigasaki, Chiba Prefecture, Eight Horses Temple Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god Susanoo-no-Mikoto. According to legend, Susanoo was responsible for the creation of the Japanese islands and the origin of the country's rivers. The shrine's name 'Hachimangu' comes from the eight horses that are said to have been drawn by Susanoo as he rode across Japan.

Hachimangu Shrine is famous for its unique worship of Susanoo-no-Mikoto as a god of war and prosperity. During the annual Hachiman Festival (March), locals offer prayers to Susanoo for protection and good fortune. The shrine's beautiful garden, adorned with traditional Japanese architecture, provides a serene oasis amidst the bustling city.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt in 1955, but its origins date back to the Muromachi period (1336-1573).
