Sanno Jinja Shrine is a Shinto temple located in the Hikeshi town of Hikawa district, Shimane Prefecture. It is one of the oldest and most revered shrines in Japan, dedicated to three powerful kami: Sanno, Fujin, and Raijin. The shrine complex features traditional Japanese architecture, with a large torii gate and a hall dedicated to each of the enshrined deities.

Cultural notes
Sanno Jinja Shrine is closely tied to local folklore, particularly with regards to the legendary 'Three Sannos' – Sanno the goddess of agriculture and fertility, Fujin the god of wind and storms, and Raijin the god of thunder. During the annual Cherry Blossom Festival (Hanami), shrine-goers come to pray for good harvests and protection from natural disasters.
Historical note
The origins of Sanno Jinja Shrine date back to the 7th century, during the Asuka period. It is said that the shrine was built by Emperor Kotoku, who fled here after his abdication and established the temple as a refuge for himself and other loyalists.
